Fair goers will work up a thirst and get a bit peckish while enjoying all the attractions.

The Aldergrove Fair Days Society has them covered. Sweet, savoury, hot or cold – the organizers have planned it all.

“This year we have more local participants,” said Kylene Shannon, on the society board and the person charged with keeping fair goers fed.

“We have Brick Alley Bistro and Veerji Indian restaurant coming in. We also have Smokin’ Hot donair truck, Veronica’s Pergoies, Gordo’s donuts, Lemon Heaven, Kona Ice snow cone truck, Corner Kick Lil Joe’s Concession, Chicken on Tires, and Wingerz Food trucks.”

She added that there’s a beer garden as well as other adult beverages.

When planning, the board wanted to work with eateries and breweries in the community.

“This year we focused on bringing our local restaurants to the fair to help showcase them to our community,” Shannon explained. We have a large shade tent with tables and chairs that they can sit and watch the entertainment on the stage, or just sit right in front of the stage there’s a large seating area. The beer garden is located near the stage and shade tent, too. We have Alder Liquor store, local as well, supplying a nice variety of drinks plus two local breweries.”

The hours of operation are slightly different depending on the attraction.

“The fair is open 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday with the kids zone closing at 8 p.m. The beer garden is open until closing which is 10 p.m. for Friday and Saturday. Sunday we are open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” she noted.

When people have satisfied their hunger, they can head over to the community centre to check out the agricultural displays, a traditional part of the fair.

“We have an agricultural prize exhibit this year and are looking for entries from the community. The information is on aldergrovefair.ca and we want our community to participate. If you garden at home, you could enter any vegetable you have grown, for example largest zucchini or radish.

People can submit things they’ve grown or made themselves in various categories, including eggs, baking, canning, crafts, gardening, upcycling, and youth categories (for ages 10 and under).

Recharged with the foods available at the fair, attendees can also tour Aldergrove Athletic Park to enjoy Aldergrove’s continuing tradition.

“We have an amazing kidz zone this year, with a schedule of events and activities,” Shannon said. “There’s pony rides, Mike the reptile guy, we have around 40 vendors including local businesses and not-for-profit organizations doing activities. We have a line up of cover bands, musicians and dancers on the big stage.”
