Langley Fine Arts School is presenting ‘She Kills Monsters’ this week.

The school’s theatre department kicked off the production Tuesday, and it runs through Saturday, March 9.

Students from Grade 8 to 12 make up a team of close to 100; a cast and crew of almost 40, and an art/design team of three classes who made the monster and creature masks and puppets, said theatre manager Kevin Statham.

After the death of her younger sister, Agnes finds a notebook containing a game scenario that Tilly created. She discovers that Tilly was a well-known Dungeons and Dragons player.

“This show is a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games and is laden with homicidal fairies, nasty monsters, and 1990s pop culture,” Statham said.

“Acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all with a kick-ass tale of friendship, loss, and acceptance.”

Students have been rehearsing ‘She Kills Monsters’ since September and are “thrilled to share this story,” he added.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. People can check out the ticket site for show times and details online.

The production contains some mild mature content. Parental discretion is advised and suggested for ages 12 and older, Statham noted.
