Langley organizations and parent advisory councils will benefit from a recent grant of $450,080.

The funding comes from the Community Gaming Grant program’s arts and culture stream, and the parent advisory council (PAC) and district parent advisory council (DPAC) stream.

Andrew Mercier, MLA for Langley, said stable funding like this helps community organizations.

“Langley is full of creative people, and it’s great that so many local organizations can help people foster that creativity,” he said.

Some local organizations receiving funding include:

  • Langley Community Music School (LCMS) - $55,000
  • Canadian Museum of Flight Association - $30,000
  • Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival Society - $15,000

Langley-East MLA Megan Dykeman noted the work PACs put into overseeing students’ school experience.

“Local PACs put a lot of care and thought into how to enhance student’s education and experience at school. Parents know the needs of their children best and our government is happy to support them,” she said.

Some PACs receiving funding include:

  • R.E. Mountain Secondary PAC - $41,960
  • Langley Secondary PAC - $19,060
  • Langley Meadows Community - $9,080

PACs generally use grants to pay for equipment and costs associated with extracurricular activities like sports, performances, movie nights, dances, and field trips, among other things.

More than $18.2 million in new funding is slated to go towards more than 650 organizations to support arts and culture across B.C.

Additionally, more than 1,300 PACs and DPACs will also receive $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout the province.
