More than 100 cyclists are expected to take part in the MS Bike Fraser Valley ride that starts and finishes at Thunderbird Show Park on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16.
The ride is a total distance of 90 kilometres through the Fraser Valley and those taking part have been fundraising for the MS Society.
MS (multiple sclerosis) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves affecting about 90,000 Canadians.
MS Bike is the largest cycling fundraiser in North America.
The annual bike event, which is part of a larger series lasting until September, aims to raise awareness of the disease and make a positive impact for Canadians affected by MS, explained Jennifer Arp, senior vice president of community at MS Canada.
"Funds raised through MS Bike help provide programs that benefit the MS community, and fund critical research that will answer the most challenging questions about MS," she said.
This year's goal is to raise $145,000, and at the time of publication just over $80,000 was already raised.
"MS Bike is a demonstration of a community coming together and having meaningful impact in the lives of people living with MS," said Barry Travnicek, MS bike ambassador for MS Canada who has been riding for 33 years.
Saturday's schedule starts with a 7 a.m. check-in, and an 8 a.m. start at tbird, and finishing at their own pace.
A scheduled end time is Sunday afternoon, with riders expected to start arriving in the morning.
