VIDEO: Halloween, Aldergrove style

Trick-or-Treat the Town event by local businesses doubles in size

Superheroes, cartoon characters, monsters and princesses and other costumed kids and adults were making the rounds Tuesday afternoon in Aldergrove.

Organized by the Aldergrove Business Association (ABA) , the Trick-or-Treat the Town event saw multiple small businesses handing out candy.

It was ideal weather, dry, sunny and not too cold.

Zane Green, owner of Ancient Burials funeral home, parked a hearse on the street in front of his business while he distributed treats from a small coffin.

“Today’s a wonderful day,” Green enthused, proudly noting his funeral home is a locally owned and locally staffed Aldergrove business.

“Everyone likes to have a little bit of fun, and I’ve got kids in the community, so we want to make sure that everyone gets to enjoy their time.”

Jami Stoker was making the rounds with 10-month-old Rowan in a stroller, who was enjoying his first Halloween event.

“He likes it,” Jami reported.

“They all think he’s adorable.”

She praised the event as “really well planned out” and a way to “prepare ourselves for the future when he can walk and do it himself.”

Rowan won’t be gorging on all the sweet treats they collected, she added.

“He can’t have the sugar, so it more benefits myself and my husband,” Jami laughed.

“But maybe we’ll sneak him a little piece.”

Ashley Sturtevant and her “little guy,” Marek, were both done up in spider-themed outfits.

“I love Halloween,” she commented.

For Marek, three-and-half, “It’s the first Halloween [where] he understands what it is,” Ashley noted.

“So he is very excited.”

ABA president Jodi Steeves said the number of participating businesses in the two-hour event was 40, roughly double the previous year, and a record.

Steeves, who was distributing full-size chocolate bars from her realty company office, said turnout appeared to be double the previous year, too.

“It was really good,” Steeves reported.

“2 p.m. was quiet, but once 2:30 hit, it was just non-stop [with] groups of 15 kids coming.”

Last year, I handed out 168 bars,” Steeves said.

“This year, 328.”
