David Bishop has been riding his bike to work for 16 years.

The annoyance of waiting in traffic, rising gas prices, and paying bridge tolls was enough for Dave Bishop to make a switch in transportation.

For the past 16 years, Bishop has been biking to work as many days a week that he can.

He cycles 15 km from Langley to Surrey, and uses all kinds of short cuts that cars can’t. He also adds cash back in his bank account every time he cycles past a gas station.

This multi-tasking father and entrepreneur has the eco-friendly attitude to make a positive impact on the air quality in Langley, while he continues to use commuter cycling as a way to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.

“For many people it takes just as long to drive as to cycle on most days,” Bishop said.

Riding is a part of Bishop’s life and he continues to encourage others to ride their bike to work or around town for an alternative mode of transportation.

“Before you realize it, biking will become addictive and you look forward to your bike commute.”

Bishop and Bike to Work Week Langley encourage Langley residents to try cycling to work or school just one day during Bike to Work Week, May 27 to June 2.

Participants who cycle at least once can register for free online at www.biketowork.ca to enter into a prize draw.

Registered participants are invited to attend a free launch barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the City Park Picnic Shelter by the Al Anderson Memorial Pool, 4949 207 St.

Bring your bikes for free safety checks and then take part in a fun, family bike ride around Langley.
