Douglas Day is on Saturday, Nov. 19, the same day that municipal elections will be held throughout the province.
To avoid the conflicting events on the same day, Township council has agreed to the Heritage Advisory Committee recommendation to mark Douglas Day on Sunday, Nov. 20.
The highlight of Douglas Day is a dinner which honours Langley’s pioneers. This year, the celebratory meal will be a lunch.
The committee also suggested that because of the conflict with election day, the Douglas Day committee may want to consider a master of ceremonies other than the mayor.
Not so fast, Mayor Rick Green said at council’s Feb. 28 meeting.
He noted that the 2008 Douglas Day dinner was emceed by mayor Kurt Alberts, who had been defeated at the polls by Green in the election only days earlier.∆11
