An Aldergrove resident died when he was struck by a falling tree while out for a walk in the 25200 block of Robertson Crescent on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Paramedics, Langley RCMP and Township of Langley firefighters responded to the call in the semi-rural area, which has large lots with tall trees along both sides of the road.
BC Emergency Health Services reported receiving a call at 7:35 a.m. that day “for an unconscious person in the road.”
A paramedic crew was dispatched to the scene, but no patient was transported to hospital.
A resident of the area, who did not want to be identified, told the Langley Advance Times the man was in his sixties and lived with his family near the area where the tree came down.
“It was very windy,” the resident said.
It happened on the same day that Environment Canada issued a weather alert cautioning residents about a storm system that would bring strong winds to extreme southern portions of Metro Vancouver from Richmond to Langley.
Township of Langley said municipal crews cleaned up the fallen tree and other debris from the windstorm, but “no detailed assessment of the of the condition [of the other trees] has been made at this time.”
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual on this tragic accident,” the Township statement said.

An investigation by the BC Coroners Service is underway.
On Saturday, the service released a statement confirming it was “investigating a death in Langley from Thursday [morning] at that location.”
“However, it would be too early for us to speculate on the cause of death until the coroners investigation is completed.”
BC Coroners Service describes itself as a “fact-finding, not fault-finding, agency” responsible for investigating all unnatural, sudden and unexpected, unexplained or unattended deaths in the province.

In August, the service was called in to investigate the death of a five-year-old boy who was killed by a falling tree while out hiking in Chilliwack.
It happened while a group was walking along the Kingfisher Trail near Yarrow.
When the tree crashed down, it struck the child and an adult woman, according to Mounties.
