Three people have been charged after Surrey RCMP arrested alleged carjackers Jan. 7.
“Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a theft of a vehicle at gunpoint in the 8200-block of 150th Street,” Cpl. James Mason, Surrey RCMP media relations officer said in a press release issued Jan. 8.
Mounties arrested the suspects after a lengthy pursuit across the city.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Surrey Mounties received reports of an armed carjacking that occurred in North Surrey.
Mounties located the car and a chase ensued. The pursuit ended near the intersection of 192nd Street and 76th Avenue in the northeastern area of Clayton Heights when both vehicles crashed in a ditch.

Mason noted police officers from the Surrey RCMP, the Langley RCMP, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services responded to the call and worked to locate the carjacked vehicle and later the suspects.
“Shortly after the initial report, the suspect vehicle was located,” he noted. “When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle allegedly fled from police.”
Mason said a collision occurred between the suspect vehicle and the police cruiser “prior to the suspect vehicle coming to a stop” on 192nd Street, near 76th Avenue.
After the crash, three people were located and arrested. One suspect was caught by Police Dog Services and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The carjacked vehicle was a Dodge Charger and after the car was searched, Mounties found three loaded firearms and ammunition.
“One police officer was also transported to hospital after receiving minor injuries resulting from the collision.”
The three suspects, Oromena Urefe (21), Janiar Hasan (24) and Dante Masone (21) were charged with several offences, including robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, flight from police, and possession of an unauthorized firearm.
“Investigators are still working to determine the motive in this incident,” Mason concluded. “Being as this matter is now before the courts, Surrey RCMP will not be releasing any further details.”
