Retired Abbotsford Police detective Bill Emery and current major crime detective Tom Wheatley each recently received provincial Awards of Valour for their role in a serial-killer investigation.
The two were among 10 members of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) recognized for their work in linking three murders of sex-trade workers.
The officers worked through their 2007 year-end holidays to secure an arrest of the accused.
The group were among 82 officers recognized during the recent Police Honours Night in Victoria.
A total of 38 officers received the Award of Valour – the highest honour for a police officer in B.C. – and another 44 received meritorious service awards, recognizing exemplary performance.
