A 12-year-old boy has died after a northbound garbage truck collided with an eastbound Ford Mustang convertible at the intersection of 256 Street and Robertson Crescent about 11:40 a.m. in Langley.

Three people were inside the Mustang.

The boy sitting in the front passenger seat was killed in the crash, while the 18-year-old woman driving the car was taken to hospital by air ambulance. She was listed in critical condition. Police said the two were cousins.

The second passenger, also a 12-year-old boy, was also airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the garbage truck suffered minor injuries in the crash and has been taken to hospital.

RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks told CTV News that the garbage truck had the right of way.

Investigators said speed and alcohol were not the cause of the crash.
