Ann (Phyllis) Rooks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Ann Rooks on June 4, 2023, at the age of 88. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Dalton, and her loving family: Daughter Louise, granddaughter Jenny (Jesse), great-grandchildren Liam and Cohen; granddaughter Joanna (Don), great-grandchildren Colton and Kaden; granddaughter Caitlyn (Kyle), great-grandchildren Jaxson, Olivia, and Ella; daughter Diane (Bevan), step-grandchildren Bryn and Mikeelea; son Dalton (Jennifer), granddaughter Jessica (Colby), great grandchildren Luke and Renley; granddaughter Chelsea (John); step-grandchildren Brighton, Alex, and Julia; daughter-in-law Danalynn (Mike); and many extended family and friends.
Born in Calgary, AB, to Robert and Phyllis Cunningham on January 8, 1935, she was a little sister to Joyce. She was a kind, quiet, and loving person who worked hard and passed these values onto her children. She enjoyed family dinners with everyone and all the shenanigans that usually ensued. She was easy to tease and had an infectious giggle. She was the heart of our family, listening to many tales and troubles quietly, providing support and wisdom when needed. She will be missed by many.
She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper for Essondale Hospital, and then for many summers, she worked at Hastings Park Racecourse, first in the Mutuals and Money Room, then later running the HBPA Feed Store with Dad. Winters found her working at Cloverdale Raceway in the Mutuals and Money Room. She was also very active in the Willoughby Saddle Club with us, the Willoughby Hall Society with Dad, and was a member of the Ladies Thoroughbred Club, where she made the horse blankets for the stake race winners for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Langley Museum.
A Celebration of Life drop in tea will be held at the Willoughby Community Hall on Friday, July 7th, from 1 to 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Langley Hospice Society would be greatly appreciated.
