With great sadness, the family of Carol Patricia Young (nee McGuinness) formerly of Langley, B.C., announces that Carol passed away on February 20th, 2023, in West Kelowna, B.C. She was born December 28th, 1931, in Brandon, Manitoba to Isabella and Frederick McGuinness. Carol is predeceased by her parents, her siblings Ruth McGuinness, Dorreene Inglis, Mary Oldfield, Orma Longphee and Frederick McGuinness, her husband Irvine Austin Young, and her daughter Beverly Jean Young. She is survived by her loving daughters Brenda Catherall (Mike Catherall) and Sheila Young (Harvey Schoen); her cherished grandchildren David, Robert, Morgan, and Kathryn; great-grandchildren Ayla, Eden, and Luca; nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
Carol attended public school in Brandon, Manitoba and went on to study at Brandon University pursuing a career as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Her first position was at Brandon Hospital, followed by a lengthy and successful career as the Medical Laboratory Manager at Langley Memorial Hospital. After her retirement in 1996, Carol worked for a short time at The Royal Columbian Hospital and Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. Afterwards, she returned to Langley, enjoying a long and happy retirement. Carol recently moved to The Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna to be near her immediate family.
Carol was dedicated to her family. She took great interest in the younger generation's accomplishments and activities. She was a fabulous cook and loved nothing better than hosting family dinners for special holidays and gatherings. For many years she was a member of Langley Countryside Quilters, creating beautiful heirloom quilts. Working with her hands gave Carol great pleasure and she explored many other fibre and fabric arts making lovely handcrafts and gifts. She also was an avid member of the Langley Camera Club for many years. Carol enjoyed music, decorative arts, literature, and current affairs. She was a lifelong learner, inquisitive and always eager to try something new. A loyal friend, Carol will be remembered fondly for her kindness and quiet nature.
A private memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to The Parkinson Society of British Columbia or another charity of your choice.
