In loving memory ~
Dorothy Josephine Gushulak passed away on July 7, 2023 at Worthington Care Pavilion in Abbotsford, B.C., at 82 years of age. Dorothy was born March 14, 1941, to Donald and Mary Matthews in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, and was raised there, apart from one year in England at the age of ten.
After high school, she moved to Winnipeg and held jobs at various companies, including Reimer Express and the Bank of Nova Scotia. In 1962 she married Lorne Gushulak and began to raise a family. In 1976 the two of them and their children moved to British Columbia, and they opened Dolo Books in Delta, to realize a long-standing dream, which unhappily was short-lived. Dorothy then went to work at Langley Memorial Hospital for many years, first in housekeeping, then in accounts payable. She retired from LMH in 2001.
Lorne predeceased her in 2013. She was also predeceased by her brother William and her sister Dora. Friends and family remember her pleasant, infectious laugh and her ease at striking up conversations with all she met and with making new friends. She loved to travel and encouraged her family to join her on her trips to Europe in 1993 and 2001. She will be greatly missed by her loving children Michael, Mark (Janet) and Lisa Gamba (John); three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; cousin Tom Ponting (Janet) in England; and numerous nieces and nephews. We thank the staff at Worthington Care Pavilion for their care in her final year. A celebration of her life will be held at a date to be announced soon.
