In Loving Memory ~

Rita Humber, a woman of unwavering faith, boundless positivity, and a heart full of love, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023. Born in Bonnyville, Alberta on January 25, 1932, to Willie Paquette and Neva Fillion, Rita's life was a testament to resilience, love, and a deep connection to her faith.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Russell Humber and son Jerry Gibbons, Rita is survived by her cherished children: Tom (Donna), Carol, Paul (Sharon), Corina (Jeremy), Lisa (Rod); daughter-in-law Sue; and sister Mattie McCartney. Rita's legacy extends to her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.

Rita's journey was marked by an indomitable spirit and a commitment to community and family. Active in both St. Anne's Parish in Aldergrove and St. Joseph's Catholic church in Langley, Rita was a devoted member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL). Her involvement in the church brought her immense joy, surrounded by her family and community.

In her youth Rita worked as a nurse then alongside her husband Russ, she ran a bakery/café and later assisted in managing their local store in Ladner and Langley, BC. Rita's work touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the communities she served.

In 2003, at the age of 71, Rita faced a life-altering car accident. Against all odds, her deep faith, positivity, and the endless support of her loving family led to a remarkable recovery, defying medical expectations.

The last decade of Rita's life presented health challenges, but she approached each day with grace and a determination to make the most of it. In Long Term Care, Rita continued to brighten the lives of those around her. Always ready with a smile, she shared goodies from her drawer with care aides and nurses, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Rita's room was a haven of love, and her family was the center of her universe. She felt blessed by the constant visits and caring gestures that filled her final years with joy. Rita's mischievous sense of humor, warm heart, and welcoming spirit will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation.

A memorial service was held on January 4th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Langley, B.C., where friends and family gathered to celebrate Rita's remarkable life and the enduring impact she had on all who knew her.
