Old friend gone

Douglas firs were chopped down to make a playing field in an area where there are already eight other fields.

Editor:

I lost an old friend today. It was 138 years old, or thereabouts. It had been around since 1874, when Louis Riel was elected in Manitoba and the RCMP was a year old. It had seen much history; had seen many blizzards; many winds; much development. But it survived.

That is until the Township of Langley decided we needed another soccer field in Aldergrove Athletic Park. Even after they had promised they wouldn't cut the "Dougs" down.

Yes, today, three graceful Douglas firs were chopped down to make a playing field in an area where there are already eight other fields.

Promises broken, lame excuses given. Shame, shame, shame.
