Plan ahead with an 'advanced directive'

What is an "advance directive"? Everyone should have an advance directive.

What is an "advance directive"?

Everyone should have an advance directive. The advance directive gives physicians and family members information on how one wishes to be cared for in a medical crisis when one is unable to speak for oneself.

It should include the medical orders for scope of treatment (end of life care) form available from physicians here in B.C., issued by Fraser Health.

In the advance directive one can state if one wants an assisted death. The advance directive must be written when one is in good mental health.

The advance directive should be re-visited every two years with one's physician and family for modification, if necessary.
