Who needs them?

Could this be a knee jerk reaction by Metro Vancouver to show Abbotsford who’s boss?

My first reaction to this story was one of confusion, did not the City of Abbotsford give serious consideration to leaving the GVRD (aka Metro Vancouver)? Could this be a knee jerk reaction by Metro Vancouver to show Abbotsford who’s boss?

As a relative newcomer to the valley I found the extent of the GVRD’s powers excessive, in light of the population growth both in my area and in Abbotsford — who needs them? I would go so far as the think that Abbotsford with its growing industrial tax base no longer needs “Big Daddy” dictates.

From time to time Surrey floats the idea of leaving the GVRD, hopefully Langley, Aldergrove and Abbotsford can exit and use the tax base for the residents without the interference of Vancouver.
