The Credo Christian Kodiaks senior boys volleyball team is rounding into form just in time for provincials, capturing the Single A Fraser Valley championship.

Credo Christian beat Regent Christian Academy to claim the Valley banner on Nov. 9, with the game was played at Credo Christian School.

The Kodiaks won in straight sets, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-8.

The start of the season was a bit more up and down as the team dealt with injuries, said head coach Peter Vanbrederode.

“We feel like we are peaking at the right time,” he said.

Heading into the season — the first with Vanbrederode as head coach — qualifying for the provincial championships and being in the mix for the banner were the goals.

“For us, that is the ultimate goal,” the coach said. “And thenn we are hoping to win some tournaments along the way. That is how we would define success.”

To better prepare for the provincials, the Kodiaks also enter tournaments against AA and AAA competition.

“If we play those teams tight, that is a good measuring stick for us,” Vanbrederode explained.

In the Fraser Valley final, Ryan Togeretz earned most valuable player honours while Cody Huttema, Will Dykstra and Damon Flokstra were all-stars.

Up next for the team will be the B.C. Single A provincial championships, which run Nov. 22 to 25 in Kamloops. The Kodiaks are seeded fifth for the tournament and are looking to build on their fourth-place finish in 2016.

The Credo Christian senior girls had a huge 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-18) win over the host Southpointe Storm to finish third at the Single A Fraser Valley championships on Nov. 16.

The Storm were seeded third and the Kodiaks fourth.

Credo Christian defeated No. 5 Highroad Academy 3-0 in the first round of the Fraser Valleys before losing 3-1 to the eventual champion Unity Christian Flames in the semifinals.

Rebekah Allison and Alisha Stam earned Fraser Valley all-star awards for Credo Christian.

The Kodiaks also advance to the provincial championships, which run Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 in Fernie.
