The Aldergrove Kodiaks took a 3-1 lead over the visiting Mission Outlaws in the first period Dec. 14 and kept it for the 5-3 win.
The Outlaws opened the scoring on a power play in the first period but less than a minute later Kodiaks captain Eric Callegari got a breakaway to score short-handed on Outlaws keeper Keaton Dyck. The assist came from Kodiak Cameron Davitt, who went on to have a three point game that night along with the game’s first star. Callegari was third star that night.
Before the first period ended Jacob De Waal and Matt Oliver would score for the Kodiaks, assisted by Davitt and Callegari, and Kyle Bosko and Kurt Klimek.
The Outlaws’ Baylee Wright scored the sole second period goal.
Late in the third period the Kodiaks scored two more for the win, with one each from Derian White and Davitt, assisted by Bosko and Klimek, and De Waal and Callegari.
The Kodiaks outshot the Outlaws 40-28 and successfully killed seven penalties.
The win improves the Kodiaks’ standing to 48 points after 30 games, the best record in the Pacific Junior Hockey League with the most wins (24) and fewest losses (6).
The Kodiaks’ final game of the year before Christmas break is Wednesday, Dec. 21, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena, versus the visiting Surrey Knights.
