Kodiaks pull ahead with 4-3 OT win

The Aldergrove Kodiaks pulled out a double-overtime 4-3 win against the visiting Grandview Steelers on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The win puts the Kodiaks firmly in first place in the Harold Brittain conference with 47 points after 39 games (20-12-2-5). They are five points ahead of the Abbotsford Pilots' 42, while the Langley Knights and Mission Outlaws battle for third and fourth place with 40 and 39, respectively.

It was a productive night for promising Kodiaks affiliate Davin Padgham, who notched three assists, including helping the overtime goal by Elvis Jansons.

Kodiak Hayden Golsteyn opened the scoring at 6:52 on a power play in the first period, assisted by Aaron Markin and Cameron Davitt. The Steelers evened it up before the period ended, with scoring by Peter Matthews, unassisted.

The Steelers briefly took the lead early in the second period with a power play goal by Adam Rota. Kodiak Markin scored three minutes later on a power play, assisted by Golsteyn and Padgham, and the Kodiaks pulled ahead 3-2 late in the period with Jansons scoring, assisted by Padgham and Eric Callegari.

Steelers Timothy Chow evened up the score early in the third and despite some intense pressure from both sides, the period ended with a tie, setting up the overtime play.

Kodiak Jansons scored the game winner at 3:31 in the second overtime, assisted by Padgham and Davitt.

Golsteyn, Markin and Chow were the game's stars, and the Kodiaks outshot the Steelers 45-44.
