An all-out effort and stellar play by the Aldergrove Kodiaks sealed their 4-1 win over the Abbotsford Pilots Monday night in front of a packed Aldergrove Arena.
The win gave the Kodiaks a 4-3 record on the first series and they now advance to play the Mission City Outlaws in the second round of the Harold Brittain division. Aldergrove hosts the first two games at Aldergrove Arena, Wednesday and Thursday, March 4-5, 7:15 p.m.
Despite being outshot 35-30 by the Pilots, Aldergrove kept the pressure on and were rewarded midway through the first period by a power play goal scored by Cameron Davitt, assisted by Eric Callegari and Aaron Markin.
Aldergrove scored three more in the second period to give them a 4-0 lead going into the third. Scorers were Spencer McHaffie from Scott McHaffie on a power play, Affiliate Davin Padgham from Davitt and Markin, and Scott McHaffie from Quinncy Leroux and Spencer McHaffie.
The Pilots stepped up the pressure in the third period but were only able to notch one, scored by Kolten Grieve, from Colton Cowden.
Stars of the night were Scott McHaffie, Leroux and Padgham. Ben Giesbrecht was Aldergrove's net minder that night, stopping 34 of 35 shots.
In the Tom Shaw division, the Grandview Steelers also sealed their move into the next round, after defeating Richmond Sockeyes in seven games. The Steelers will play North Vancouver Wolf Pack in their next round, also starting this week.
