Port Moody, Langley among top Canadian cities for monogamy: survey

Maple Ridge and Kelowna also make the top 10 in nation-wide poll



Has a romantic runaround given you the desire for something more stable? You might look to a few cities in B.C.

Port Moody ranked third in Canada for the highest number of monogamous people, according to a report released Tuesday by EliteSingles dating service, which surveyed 20,000 of its members.

Langley came in seventh, Maple Ridge ranked ninth, and Kelowna took the 10th spot.

The highest number of men who report being committed to just one partner were in Port Moody, while Langley and Richmond are home to the highest numbers of monogamous women.

“The study demonstrates that there are actually still plenty of people out there who do value monogamy and want to build a lasting and loving relationship,” EliteSingles’ in-house psychologist, Salama Marine, said in a release.

If you value monogamy, she said, you shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it with your partner.

“The biggest sign of romantic incompatibility is if you and the person you’re seeing have different expectations from the relationship,” said Salama. “It is therefore important to ask yourself whether you’re looking for something serious or casual, and to find out if your partner wants the same things. And, to avoid getting hurt, it’s best to have this conversation early on.”

Participants in the study were also asked to rank the extent to which they agreed with the sentiment, ‘I believe that monogamy is essential in a relationship,’ on a scale of one to 10.

It suggests Canadians are strongly in favour: the average result for women was 6.3, while men average 5.7.
