VIDEO: Langley Cup is underway

Event hosted by Langley Minor Hockey Association

Hundreds of young players were competing for “bragging rights” in the Langley Minor Hockey Association’s annual Langley Cup championship, held at the Langley Sportsplex beginning Saturday, March 16, and wrapping up Monday, March 18, with the championship round.

Open to all LMHA players, the double-knockout contest provided four trophies, for the top U11, U13, U15, and U18 ‘C’ division Teams.

It is LMHA’s biggest in-house event, explained Jennifer Kingwell, association administrator, who called it “one of the most exciting tournaments on our season.”

“It’s very competitive, fun, high energy,”Kingwell told the Langley Advance Times.

“It’s what all the coaches and all the players strive for, to be victorious [and have ] bragging rights.

March is a busy time for the LMHA, a month that also includes hosting the U18 Tier 2 Provincial Championships, running from March 16-21 at the George Preston Rec Centre in Langley, and organizing the third annual Jean Adams Memorial Tournament, running March 22-24 at the sportsplex.

At the provincial championships, U18 A2 Langley Eagles of the LMHA were playing against teams from around B.C, including Victoria Admirals, South Delta Storm and Vernon Vipers.

For U7 and U9 players, the Jean Adams memorial tournament honours the memory of the lifetime member of LMHA, who passed away in February 2021.

Adams is remembered as an integral part of the association, serving as a team mom, division manager, secretary and registrar.

Established in 1973 as a formal society, LMHA, home of the Eagles, is a non-profit, community focused minor hockey organization and a member of both Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey (PCAHA) and BC Hockey.

Last year, the association unveiled a new look for their 50th season, that included a new colour palette, new logos, new jersey design, uniforms, and apparel, as well as new programs to improve skills and opportunities, all-new rep programming that aims to provide consistency across all levels, redefined tournaments and membership events.
